Atfantasy.com says Gaming Frontiers is...

At the risk of annoying yet another d20 publisher/author (I think i'm up to 5), AtFantasy is something of a joke.

Their reviews are basically like the blurb on the back of a product's cover. Short, and always trying to sell the product. (Which they do, through Amazon.com)

Plus, any review that says "measly $17.95", suggests that they didn't pay for the product.

That said, your magazine isn't a bad product. I've looked at one, and thought it looked interesting, but at $18, it's too rich for my blood, at for what's in it (ie, a grab bag of stuff that I may or may not ever find useful..).

Well then, according to your opinion, we're fortunate that we also got very positive reviews from gamewyrd.com, mortality.net, gameplaynews.com and d20zines.com. Maybe to you these sites are also "jokes", so this news really wouldn't affect you.

well I must admit the few AtFantasy reviews I have read recently has been rather blurred and pointless (I was terrified of some heh). But recently "They" (AtFantasy.com) game me a chance to review from them and I will try to do a better job then those I read over there. At least I will give a hard look how some of my favorite reviewers have done reviews (example of style I like is EN World's own Psion, which makes world class reviews, in this poor gamers humble opinion).

So I hope I can help change the view some have of AtFantasy having joke reviews, anyway cheers!

Didn't like it

Sorry, I did not like this product. I bought, read it, tried to give it away, couldn't give it away, and eventually threw it in the trash. Most of the articles come from other d20 publishers and they just didn't seem very good. Sorry, but that's my opinion. :(

Not to mention it's way overpriced.

The least you could have done was line the bird cage with it.

Yeah. That's the point of the product.

Overpriced when compared to what? I'm sorry you didn't like Volume 1, but perhaps you'll find something to your liking in Volume 2 or beyond. Not every Volume is for every person. Hopefully, there will be a majority of things in each Volume that appeal to every d20 enthusiast, and a few things that really appeal to some people (people that like a particular d20 company's product line, for instance, and can't get enough).

Well, I probably would have if I had one.:)

Yeah. That's the point of the product.

I understand that it's the point of the product. But, my point was that the articles were not very good. Again, my opinion. It seems to me that the other publishers may not put their best foot forward on an article meant for another publication. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm sure it has a high price because it's in color and the quality of the paper is very nice. However, it's too much like a magazine for me to justify paying $17 for it. I'll take a look at the next issue, a real close look, before I decide to buy it.

Man, you must have a strange gaming group. My own group loves the thing, but because of it's price, each member hasn't bought it yet. The price is high for a magazine, but this is, in my humble opinion, more than a magazine. The quality of paper and the full color throughout the book make this a great gem of quality. I and my group are personally betting that it can't continue for the same price without cutting pages or adding lots of ads. We hope we're wrong, but we feel that the price, even while it acts as a small barrier to some, is a bargain.
