The emperor struck down the chief priest of the Empire and declared that men ruled the Empire, not gods. So the gods said 'OK', and withdrew from the world. All divine magic stopped working, which of course included all these ancient wards on tombs and demonic gates and stuff. Things got pretty bad after that.</blockquote>
