Greetings EN Worlders! I must fulfill a prerequisite task to gain Honors credit in my Cultural Anthropology class. The prerequisite being, I have to write a paper of a topic of my choosing. After lots of consideration, I have decided to tackle the topic of division in gamer subculture based on specialization. I want to show others through my research and writing that the various affinity groups of the gamer subculture are as varied as ethnic or religious cultures, if not more so. Therefore, I have put together a questionnaire for volunteers to fill out. My goal in this stage of research is to to data and statistical analysis of a sample of the virtual gamer population here on EN World and other haunts. I am looking for at least 100 volunteers. I will have to run it by my teacher, but I expect to have it completely ready by the weekend. I am looking for anyone and everyone who wants to voice their opinion. Even if you don't feel qualified to criticize games and community, you should still volunteer if you feel like you have something to say. All ages and experiences and every combination of every faculty should apply. I'm looking for a lot of people, so don't feel like you should hold back. Of course, due to the nature of the varied nature of gamer division, my only requisite for you is to have D&D as your favorite game. Edition doesn't matter, as long as your favorite game is D&D. Retro-clones and other simulacrum are also acceptable. Honesty is also important. Unfortunately, as I am a poor college student, I cannot offer recompense for your time. However, I would like to think that your contribution is worth more than any payment I could make, as you are greatly aiding me in writing about a topic that, as to the best of my knowledge, is not very well studied in Anthropology. You are helping me fulfill a goal, which I believe, benefits us all: recognition and validation of the gamer subculture, one which we all know and accept, but those outside of it do not understand. Because it is an academic paper, I will try to be as unbiased as I can possibly allow; although, admittedly, writing an ethnographic paper on this very subject with this goal is very biased, but the presentation, analysis, and evidence can be as unbiased as possible. If you are interest, and I beg you to volunteer, send me an email to my gmail address, oriondc [AT] gmail [DOT] com. I am going to allow for a week to gather people, maybe longer if I need to. Thank you for your time, consideration, and if you volunteer it, your help. Sincerely, Orion Cooper
