Does anyone here have any pointers for a first timer selling on ebay?

I ask because I have just put the remainder of the books that I had for sale up on EBAY. You can check it out by clicking the link below.

Good luck in selling them all at once. Breaking them up in smaller auctions with pics would be better. Just my two cents...

Im going to post my agreement with Jamdin here.

For one thing, people who go to ebay are looking for either out of print products, or a good bargain (i.e., less than retail price) or both.

The way your auction is now, you won't get many people bidding on it. This is because people there tend to not want to spend that much. What's more, since people tend to go to ebay looking for specific things, they might see one item they want in that bundle, but be scared off since they have to pay so much to get all the rest of that as well, which they don't really want.

My advice, break it up and sell them in small groups, or even better, sell each book separately.

Ditto for splitting up the items. In fact, I'd stop the auction now before it gets any bids. Research, IMO, is pretty critical. How many of a particular item is being sold at that time? What's the going rate of ones recently sold(check "completed items")? Use the tools Ebay gives you. People are looking for bargains and unless everything in your auction is super rare, you can practically forget making any $$ on it.

I'm going to agree with the other posters here. I've sold a few items on eBay, and purchased a bunch. I've noticed that individual items will sell at a higher (relative) price than bundles. Most people that are looking for oop or used material already have some and don't need a whole collection. This even holds for lots of 3 modules or magazines. The individual sales will bring in a higher aggregate amount, albiet with a bit more work on your part. Also, pictures and condition are critical. If there is no pictures, I tend not to bid. If there are no other similar items being offered, I may bid, depending on the feedback level of the seller, though will assume it is in poor condition.

FYI, the shipping seemed a bit high too, though I don't know the gross weight of the books. Priority shipping costs $3.85 anywhere in the US for a FedEx sized envelop. Media mail is pretty cheap. Items that are listed with overly high shipping & handling fees (why should I pay a handling fee?) also tend to be discounted.

So, anyway, although you may get someone that is looking for all those books and will pay up for them, chances are that there a number of people looking for just one, and is willing to pay for only that one.

The starting prices are all really high; I'll be surprised if you get any bids.

Just FYI. The starting price should be the absolute minimum amount of money you would be willing to take in exchange for the books, not the amount you hope you're going to get, because you probably won't get it.

Use a scanner, split the items up to individual books, and give a discription of each item. Don't use images off the net, because once people find out, your reputation goes down the drain...
