Danielewski- and also a disappointment.Its a spectacular piece of quasi-Victorian alt-hist/fantasy.However, it disappointed me in that some of the editing was noticeably bad: I can't recall at the moment what it was, but I remember flipping back and forth between a few pages to reassure myself that I had indeed read what I had read- some passages simply didn't follow the story continuity.  Some editor was asleep at the wheel.  Yes, you should expect some editing errors in a novel this size...but as I recall, they were whoppers.Of course, I've forgotten what they were since I read the book some years ago, and for all my griping, they don't detract from the overall awesomeness of the story and how its told.</blockquote>
