The year is 1937, and the Second World War, the Final War, has begun. The forces of the Axis Powers have executed their long-secret plans - Germany and the Soviet Union have carved Poland and France into territories, each held in their totalitarian grip. The nations of Africa and the Middle East struggle, some for the Allies, others for their deadly foes. Battle lines have been drawn. A surprise attack on Pearl Harbor has only barely been averted, thanks to the superhuman Tangents of the Allied Special Defense and Interdiction Corps; the submarine navy of the Japanese still lurks in the Pacific, but America's shores are safe from attack...for now. It is a fragile standoff, one sure to erupt into shattering violence, sooner rather than later. Menace lurks around every corner, as open war conceals secret battles, unseen by most of mankind... Now is the time for those who have been gifted...or cursed, those with abilities beyond those of mere men. The Second Age of Tangents has begun. Beneath their tread, the Earth trembles, and in their hands rests the fate of history itself. Their powers and allegiances will guide the future of mankind...and should the darkest of their number triumph, the consequences will be terrible indeed... Across the globe, as if called by the chaos, powerful super-humans are emerging - from the artificial Übersoldat Infanteriekorps and Nachtflieger Luftkommandos, to the psychic might of the Soviet Winter Wolves, to America and Britain's secret ASDIC program and the mysterious Thallesium...all will play roles in the war that threatens all life on Earth. And somewhere, hidden from all eyes but those of the alien and malevolent Circle of Six, work has begun on the ultimate weapon -the final fire, the engine of apocalypse that will destroy humanity. The Ragnarök Device. For Hughes International Security - PERIL, Incorporated - none of this matters...or perhaps all of it does. But for the moment, the Tangents chosen by Howard Hughes to avert the apocalypse predicted by the Hughes Analytical Logic Engine, his mechanical intelligence, have other tasks to attend to...and new recruits to bring into the fold. But first, the new recruits have to be found... PERIL, INC. is a PL 7 pulp-flavored campaign set in an alternate past - one where pulp heroes, gadgeteers, vigialntes and superheroes are about to collide in a global conflict. PCs work for Hughes International Security, traveling the world to battle spies, saboteurs, cultists and bizarre menaces. Game time is on alternate Fridays (soon switching to Sundays) in north Austin, TX. Contact jamesroberthague@gmail.com for details.
