I got it the day after it was released at Walmart for $45. I don't know how you could compare it to Forza, since Forza isn't out yet. But GT4 has actually made me look forward to Forza all the more, because while i like GT4, the shortcomings are painfully obvious. No damage. Dumb AI (I don't expect Forza to improve over this). No recording of track times in the race (ie, it doesnt' keep records. I could have sworn the original GT did this. Most race games do. But GT4 doesn't). Similarly, there's very little info on a race before you enter it. You have no idea if your car is just right, too good, or too slow for the race in question. And in various series of races, like the NA Tuned series, in one race my car was too fast, in others, it was far too slow. Very few non-Japanese cars. (42+ Skylines, but no classic Mustangs*? Forza doesn't actually have many American cars either, but it at least has a lot more European and has 1 classic Mustang, the '70 Mach 1. I don't hate Japanese cars, I just wish games had more cars from other countries, too. ) On a related note, not being able to paint your cars. I don't understand the whole point of Photo mode (which is pretty neat), if you cannot change the looks of your car beyond changing wheels and adding a very silly looking "wing" to the car. (Why couldn't they have realistic spoilers? Not the silly ones?) I also really hate having to do the car wash and oil change. All they do is take up a minute of my time, each. They don't add any fun to the game. I hope it's not like GT3, where the oil thing caused you to not be able to finish a race championship without damaging a car (because even if you changed the oil before the championship, the oil light would go on by the last race in uit) I really hate the PS2 controller for racing games. I guess GT4 is a lot better with that wheel, but I'm not paying $150 for a wheel. That said, it is pretty fun. But for a game that took 4 years to develop, it's surprisingly deficient in many areas. Menus are especially slow to navigate. The graphics are very very impressive, but that's about the only thing in the game that is outstanding. The sound is terrible - V8s still sound like lawnmowers. This is a weird choice on Sony's part, too. They only sound terrible when you play from a 1st person view. The 3rd person view they sound okay, or if you look backwards. But in the car it sounds awful. Don't get it wrong, it's a great game. But it's got a lot of shortcomings, too. I dunno if Forza will be better (from the screenshots, it seems it will have slightly worse graphics and run at only 30 fps), but it might be. Might not. It will at least have damage, let you paint the car, and use the Xbox controller (which I like better). And it will apparently do races by car class. That is, your opponents should always be roughly the same as you. * Okay, it has the Shelby 350, but IMHO, that's more a Shelby than a Mustang.
