Choose a number between 1 and 6 to add to your DC. Roll that number of d4s and take that amount of nonlethal damage. Or, take 1 point of lethal damage per die instead.  So to boost your save DCs by 3, either take 3d4 nonlethal damage or 3 lethal (or a mixture thereof).
