Backgrounds inspired by Rome

Backgrounds are the best part of 5th edition IMO. Mechanically they focus a player on at least giving passive thought to how their character functions in the world. Which adds a surprising amount of depth. In my game I had players choose their bonds, and some roll randomly and then try to fit the rolls into the existing story. It was wonderful, and made me think next time I decide to run a long form campaign I should theme the backgrounds much more heavily. Which I probably won't do cuz I will probably end up running "Curse of Strahd" and the more alien my players are to the setting the better I think it works personally.

In any event, here are some background variants inspired by Rome I cooked up for the blog.
