Having recently aquired permissions to make d20 versions of several books published by Baen Publishing, I was excited to find out that there was a whole electronic library of books. Many of which I have bought repeatedly to read to death yet again. Particularly David Drake novels, which I've loved since I was a teenager. At the forefront of the library is text from the librarian and the company itself, and many people possibly scan over it. However, with the ongoing concerns in the d20 PDF publishing community about piracy, several things within it are relevant to us. Particularly the part about piracy. So, read this, from a major publishing company, and then read what I propose at the bottom. You'll probably figure it out before I get there, but hey, it's not like you have a pressing engagement, right? --T Willard Now, I've read all of the information directed by esteem and respected d20 Publishers and writers and shippers and players and everyone else. But let us calm down a minute and take a GOOD look at the above. A publishing house with decades of experience under thier belt. Read it again if you need, I'll wait. Ready? OK. Hold on to your belt, because I have a proposition that will probably be met with torches, pitchforks and wails of sorrow. I propose an ENWorld E-Library. Plain and simple. I would like it if authors, and companies, put forward some of thier older books, books that just don't generate that much income any more, for FREE download in the ENWorld library. Not for registered "community supporters" of ENWorld, or just for the publisher's friends, but for EVERYONE. Just a name and email address, perhaps with a contact notification for when titles are added. I like the limitation set up above, that no writer add more than six at a given time. Think about it. I know you're going to argue over it. Think about it for a moment without your wallet held in your hands or visions of eating something besides Top Ramen. (Yeah, I'm sitting here eating Top Ramen because I can't afford anything else right now.) Think of the boost to the d20 Community. Think of how it can erase bad stigmata related to various companies (Like mine, but then, I don't care like some of you do) and PDF products in general. No DRM crap attatched to the product, no trackers, no tracers, nothing but, in the upper right: "PROVIDED BY THE ENWORLD GAMING LIBRARY" on the pages. That's a 5 minute adjustment. As for people angry that they paid for it six months to a year ago, I guess they are in the same boat as someone who buys a VCR for $75 and two weeks later the same one is available for $19.95 on sale. Or the people waiting until it's available in the library instead of having to buy it, do you really think they can afford it anyway? Anyway, feel free to start using axes and machete's on one another. Once the fallout is done, let's discuss this rationally, and seriously think about it. --Tim Willard
