I realized it wasn't new, but it did bear repeating, as the letter was more than just anti-piracy that I was referring too, but rather, a good, solid reason WHY we should create an ENWorld Library. (Not a counter-snark, just a good explanation) And if it comes right down to it. I'll do it. Get me a volunteer to do the code for the webpage and a donation link, I'll pay for the download bandwidth and host it. I have 10 GB of pipeline/mo available, and can double it if I have to. Since I often come across with a "Put up or Shut up, bonebag!" attittude, here's my offer. I'll put up QuickShots Mission File: Bravo; Quickshots Mission File: Charlie; and if Hellhound/Dextra permit it, QuickShots Mission File: Alpha. And I'll handle the bandwidth. Here's some suggestions we came up with talking about it in chat.
Strip out ALL artwork that is non-essential. That includes backgrounds, headers, page borders, etc.
If you MUST have them, then put out an open call for FREE artwork needed for a "Library Book", there's lots of hungry artists out there just dying for a shot.
Pull the cover, and make a faux-leather cover with gold writing. A 20 minute job in photoshop. If you don't have the time, I'm sure whoever is nominated as librarian could do it quite easily.
PROVIDED BY: [INSERT COMPANY] on the left hand side of the page, and "ENWORLD LIBRARY" on the right hand side of the page. a 5 minute job on Adobe.
No DRM, tracking, or anything else.
Once the product is up, it STAYS up. No pulling it down, no rotating stock.
Maps be usable, but low-resolution.
C&P and Print options turned ON. We want this to be useful.
Flavor text can be left in. Personally, I advise that it is, but hey, it's your call.
The product should match, be useful, and a reasonable fascimile of the pay product.
The product should remain available. If it is no longer available, then we'll put the WHOLE product up for download.
We'd need a few volunteers. Particularly, someone who can do the site coding. SOmeone to act as librarian. These would be UNPAID positions. How does that sound? --T Willard
