Choose one square adjacent to you. The square counts as an ally for the purpose of flanking until the end of your next turn.

Quick question. Does the "square" count as an ally only for the belt's wearer or for all of the wearer's allies?

Well, the rules for the belt aren't particularly clear, one way or the other.

That said, if it is only you and has to be adjascent, its not terribly useful... certainly not an 8+ item, IMHO.

It only has to be adjacent to start with, you can make it diagonally adjacent to you to the left of the target and then you shift to his right to gain flanking. While you are no longer adjacent it was valid when you selected it and it is until the end of your next turn. So you can get two rounds of flanking benefit from it.

It makes the square count as an ally for the purpose of flanking. it doesn't specify only you, so any ally can benefit from it. I have to agree if you have to drop it off and then circle around for it to be of any use, its a fairly lack-luster item. I see it as "you now take up two squares when determining whether or not you flank" sort of item.

If it's read that way, then surely any creature at all can benefit.

I stand in square K11 and designate square K12 to be considered an ally for the purposes of flanking.

An enemy orc moves to square K10. He is flanking me if he has an ally in K12... and K12 is considered an ally for the purposes of flanking.

However, it seems that powers such as these tend to keep everything geared toward the point of view of the user. So an "ally" of the person using the baldric would be an "enemy" of the user's enemies.
