Barbarian rage question

My barbarian went into a rage for 2 turns and the rules say that he isn't fatigued after 4 turns and 8 hours of rest. but what is the point of the a certain amount of turns and then rest when you can just say rest?

If you stop raging you are fatigued for twice the number of rounds and you can not rage again while you are fatigued. However, once the fatigue passes, you can use any remaining number of rounds of rage you still have for the day (with subsequent fatigue each time).

Your total number of rounds of rage per day reset with 8 hours rage.

So, if you have 8 rounds per day and use 2, after the four rounds fatigue you still have 6 more than can be used immediately, or at any later time in the day.

I'm not quite sure what you mean...

If you rage for two turns and the encounter is done, with no more encounters, then you are not fatigued, no issue - then rest at end of the day.

In my sessions, it depends on the adventure of course, but there are almost never only a single encounter per day, so the barbarian turn his rage on then, off, as needed, and usually runs out of rage rounds before the end of the day, and will be fatigued or exhausted depending on the how long he rages, etc.

In long combats, the barbarian rages for a few rounds then is forced to rest, steps out of combat, then returns rages again, rinse and repeat until combat ends. He'll eventually be fatigued for that situation. Just rest and move on...

Technically if the barbarian raged for two rounds and the encounter ends and the barbarian leaves the rage then he is fatigued for 4 more rounds. Of course since he is out of combat because the encounter ended, then no one really cares that he is now fatigued for 4 non-combat rounds.

When the barbarian ends their rage they are fatigued for twice the number of rounds they were in a rage. So if he rages for 3 rounds of combat, ends his rage, then he is fatigues for 6 rounds.

I am not sure what you mean here. If the barbarian rages and then stops raging mid-combat he'll be fatigues for twice the amount of rounds he was raging for. It doesn't seem effective to rage, end the rage and be fatigued within the same combat encounter unless the barbarian has flat out run out of rounds he can rage.

So the 8 hours of rest just resets the number of rages taken. The time spent fatigued is just there so you aren't raging for an entire encounter?

Correct 8 hours of rest will allow you to regain your maximum amount of rounds you can rage, the "rage counter" has been reset.

The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive.

So they don't even need to be consecutive hours, just eight of them in some time span.

I believe the fatigue is there to help make you balance your resources and to keep you from raging one round, coming out of rage with no penalties and then raging another round and so on and so on. Even at first level a barbarian could likely stay raged through a whole encounter that was 5 or 6 rounds long though. They just would have burnt up most of their rages for the day until they get 8 hours of rest.

Fatigue caused by Rage is "special," it goes away on its own after a certain duration (twice the # of rounds you raged in PF; till the "end of the encounter" in 3E). It does NOT require rest to remove, like other sources of fatigue, though it can still be cured by spells and abilities (like a Paladin's lay on hands if he has the proper Mercy for it) just like "normal" fatigue.

Quite often, the fatigue after rage is little more than fluff. It only matters if something happens right after the encounter: more enemies show up, the party flees the encounter and has to outdistance pursuit, there is a natural disaster that they need to avoid, etc.

okay i am so happy now, I thought that you my character would be fatigued until I was also rested for 8 hours I have this now. thank you all
