What differenciates these two clases? aside from one being a core and the other being a prestige class. can you be raged and frenzied at the same time? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks

I found Barbarian class balanced and the other is a real joke, a 16 STR fighter that end up with almost 40 and cannot die for the period of the rage.

Yes, beserk and rage stack. The Beserker does have some hefty draqwbacks that makes it tough to be part of a prty though.

Frenzied Berserkers, although insanely powerful, are incredibly limited. While Barbarians in Rage can still think and discern between enemies and allies, Frenzied Berserkers cannot. If a Frenzied Berserker kills the last enemy while in Frenzy, unless he can stop the Frenzy (by making the Will Save), he immediately attacks the nearest person, regardless of who it is. Therefore, you can imagine how dangerous it would be to have a Frenzied Berserker in your group. They're powerful, yes, but incredibly dangerous to everyone, including themselves.

Also, the Frenzied Berserker does not always have a choice about frenzying. If they fail a Will save whenever taking damage, they must frenzy and start killing things.

One of the good things for the Frenzied Berserkers is the picture in Complete Warrior, though the staying alive when one would otherwise be dead is a close second.

You mean the one with the girl leaping to attack her enemies?

The Frenzied Berseker is the best example of something I really don't like in D&D/whatever: Tremedous advantages compensated by tremendous drawbacks, especially when the drawbacks are at the expense of others.

Seriously, why would any party accept a Frenzied Berserker within its ranks when it knows that their party member can turn upon them and chop them to pieces?

Of course, I'm biaised because a FB killed my cleric. After that, how can I justify the fact that my cleric would continue adventuring with this guy? Thank god he went on a rampage and killed 20 city guards before coming out of Frenzy and being captured and subsequently put to death by the lord of the city.

Yeah... I would be pissed too.

"I was just role-playing my character !"

Well, you choose that character, knowing full well the specs. Bye bye.

FB are better as solo adventuring PC's or as DM's evil NPC's.

The FB is actually pretty balanced, IMHO, if you change the Deathless Frenzy and Improved/Supreme Power Attack abilities a bit.

Deathless Frenzy: When under the effects of a frenzy, the frenzied berserker is not rendered disabled or dying when reaching 0 or fewer hit points, but instead can continue fighting normally until (s)he reaches a negative hit point total equal to her class level x her Constitution modifier, at which point she dies immediately.

Still a deadly ability, but not completely without limits.

Improved Power Attack: When using her Power Attack feat, a frenzied berserker adds +3 damage for every -2 subtracted from the attack roll. If using a two-handed weapon, the frenzied berserker adds +5 damage for every -2 subtracted.

Supreme Power Attack: When using her Power Attack feat, a frenzied berserker adds +2 damage for every -1 subtracted from the attack roll. If using a two-handed weapon, the frenzied berserker adds +3 damage for every -1 subtracted.
