Bard in campaign full of undead

Looking through the monster manual, I found that a lot of undead are immune to the charmed condition, which is one of the bard's major methods of damage mitigation. Does a campaign that has a lot of undead in it compromise a bard's usefulness?

There are ways other than charm for a bard to mitigate damage. Does the bard have vicious mockery, for instance?

Also, is this a hypothetical question, or do you have a particular campaign in mind? If so, are you the DM or the player of the bard?

Bards can be useful in just about any game. I don't think many of the bard's core abilities are negated by being immune from charm. And they have a diverse list of spells to pick from to keep them effective. Plus some subclasses have decent direct combat abilities as well.

Subclass plays a big role.

Valour is probably the best Bard subclass and doesn't rely on charms for base damage. They only get Vicious Mockery for a damage cantrip so having attacks is good.

The type of campaign will always have an affect on a character class's effectiveness. While characters are seldom "pointless," as could happen in prior editions, different classes often provide similar roles. In an undead campaign, a light cleric is going to be way more effective than a glamour bard, even though they may provide somewhat similar roles. Conversely, in a battle heavy campaign, a valor/sword bard is going to be more effective than a knowledge cleric.

So it really comes down to what you want, as a player (assuming you know the campaign theme beforehand). If you're worried about your effectiveness, then with the bard you should consider planning on taking valor, sword, or even lore (picking up some radiant damage spells with Secrets). If you want to have maximum effectiveness, then take the light or life cleric. Since you can almost always contribute no matter your character, you can always choose to play whatever appeals most to you.

Depends on the game and if there are a lot of city time and NPC interaction where they can shine. Also, there are usually other bad guys with the undead, but constructs and elementals may not be the best for a bard either.

Curse of Strahd (heavy on the undead) game we have a Bard who is regularly MVP

Bane, Cutting Words and VM make for very unhappy monsters

Healing Word, Shatter, Disguise Self and Bardic Inspiration are all super useful as well.
