First of all, if you don't like bards, please exit stage left. For those of you remaining, a recent thought struck me, and I'd like some help in developing ideas for Currently, the Bard has access to the Bardic music ability, but it is a bit static. I was considering, what if that ability were shaken up a bit in a way by modelling it like the various Warlock pacts - in that you could approach the Bardic music ability from multiple angles and it would open up a select menu of abilities. Tenatively, I am considering the name "Performance", and it reflects the main "talent" that bard calls on to invoke this ability. Instrument - the bard plays an instrument. A side ability would be that bard can animate the instrument at some point to play itself. Ritual magic seems like a good thing to access here. Song - the bard physically sings. Likely has access to charm and sonic-based abilities. Shatter & Thunderwave spells would be a good link here. Whistle - ? -- Perhaps the above 3 could be combined into Musical Talent (needs a catchy name) --- Dance/Acrobatics - the bard uses bodily movement to weave magical abilities. Dodging, avoiding and movement abilities seem like a good fit. Juggling - deft manipulation of objects Parlor Magic - illusions, sleight of hand and other deceptions of "stage magic" mixed in with real magic -- Perhaps the above 3 could be combined into Stage Performance (needs a catchy name) -- Encylopedic (?) - sort of like a sage, bookiphile or other factotum (imagine Alex Trebec as a Bard) Other performance ideas or a completely different take? I think a system that had 3 - 5 choices would be best.
