As a Yanks fan, I gotta say that this year's defeat really hurt. Not as much as last year (duh) but this one was actually winnable and the team flat-out didn't execute. Feels a little like when we lost to the D-Backs, but not quite. 2001 - Arizona gets a few bloops and forces a critical late-game mistake to beat Rivera. 2002 - The buzzsaw-like Angels plow through the AL and then win the Series. Nothing to be done here, they killed everyone that year. 2003 - Wells can't pitch in Game 5 killed us. They also played a hot team at the wrong time after an exhausting series against the Sox. It happens. 2004 - Biggest choke ever. *sigh* Should have beat Boston but once the Yanks were forced to start Brown in Game 7 they had no chance. The better team won. 2005 - Failure to execute. They should have nailed down Game 2 and let it get away. They couldn't take advantage of a rookie pitcher after Colon went down plus an outfield miscommunication. A-Rod's DP in the 9th was a killer. Haters rejoice, the Yanks again go down. I'll also just say that since they started buying/trading for big superstars (starting with Mussina in '01) they haven't won a single championship. And no, the late 70's don't count. I'll be routing for the Astros from here on out but most of my attention will officially be on the NFL. It's going to be an interesting off-season where Cashman, Bernie and a few others may be gone...
