Batman VS Superman VS Captain America VS Iron Man

Putting my money on Marvel, they keep proving they can keep making great movies, with strong characters and stories. Batman/Superman, hit and hiss.

Just look at Guardians of the Galaxy, some were predicting it was a gamble for Marvel, yet it surprised a lot of people and is the number one movie of the year at this time, followed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The other point to note is that Marvel does better in the World Market.

Of Note:
Iron Man 3 (5/2013) Total Lifetime Grosses: Domestic: $409,013,994 33.7% + Foreign: $806,426,000 66.3% = Worldwide: $1,215,439,994

Man of Steel (6/2013) Total Lifetime Grosses: Domestic: $291,045,518 43.6% + Foreign: $377,000,000 56.4% = Worldwide: $668,045,518

I hope that both movies are utterly awesome. I intend to go and see them both, and enjoy them immensely. I have no desire to see any given megacorp "beat" another one; I just want to see awesome superhero flicks!

I also hope that both do well, and are great movies.

But, you know, I didn't go to see the last stand alone Batman or Superman flicks. What I heard didn't jazz me. I'm not sure I'm jazzed for this one.

Meanwhile, Marvel has earned a lot of goodwill. They have shown, with GotG, that even with a property or plotline I question, they can make an entertaining flick. I will be giving them benefit of the doubt on their big-screen offerings for a while.

I think the linked Forbes article above gets much of it right, but I think it misses a major chunk of the success. Batman wins because he's a badass. Superman wins because he's the last son of Krypton. But really, Tony Stark wins because he's clever and driven. Captain America wins because he's such a good guy that people will follow him into the fire. Star Lord wins, honestly, because he's a charming dork! The DC heroes win because of their powers. The Marvel heroes win because they are the people they are, and Marvel's been making sure that is supported by the writing and acting.

I dunno. Marvel vs. DC. iPhone vs Android. It's all variations on edition wars, and seems pervasive in everything these days. I'm just so tired of it! As far as I'm concerned, I just hope they will both be awesome, because then I get to watch two awesome superhero movies rather than just one. Which is a win for me! I've loved most of the Marvel flicks so far (with a couple of exceptions) and most of the DC flicks, especially Nolan's Batman trilogy. It's all good stuff!

It can be, of course. But I think you're squashing some real critique by labeling all such analysis as such.

"Don't talk about the differences, because they're all edition warring!"

I didn't say that. Those are your words, not mine. :)

BTW, I've noticed most of your posts seem to be double-posting for some reason. I keep deleting the dupes, but it's odd that it's happening to you a lot.
