Batman. Where to start?

Really? I loved McFarlane's art, but thought Miller dropped the ball with the story. On the other hand, I found the DC one to have an interesting story with crappy Klaus Janson art.
I don't remember being particularly impressed with the story of the DC one, but I do know I hated the art.

As for the Image one, I carefully said that it was top-notch talent, not that it was necessarily a top-notch job. ;) I certainly don't think that story was Miller's best work, but it was OK. I thought the personalities of Spawn and Batman together, and the way they spectacularly didn't get along was fun, though.

EDIT: I just reread The Dark Knight Returns last night. Brilliant stuff. Batman: Year One too. And I say this as a person who wasn't really a fan of Batman prior to these books; it seemed campy and silly to me. But those two are among my favorite comic books EVAR, to say nothing of being my favorite Batman books.
