Battle Graph -- in my hands

My Battle Graph dry erase boards came today. When Longtooth Studios said that the product would launch May 1, I expected my preorder to ship then (today), not arrive. Color me impressed with that.

The product itself is quite nice. Obviously I haven't had a chance to do much more than pull them out of their packaging and stick them together, but they seem to be solidly made. I've never owned/handled any of the Tact-Tiles, so I can't really make a comparison there. These seem, as people guessed from photos and the videos, to be a sort of laminate on a board back. They're solid and should stand up to play and travel well. The "grooves" on them are much shallower than I expected (and than the videos suggested); I prefer this, since there's less opportunity for crumbs and such to get caught. The "thick" lines are also nowhere near as thick as the demo ones on Longtooth Studio's website; really, the lines are quite light. The pieces snap together easily but still have enough "give" to come apart easily. I like that the lines/grooves line up from piece to piece.

The Battle Graph pieces reek of something--plastic or some solvent, perhaps--right out of the box, but the smell fades quickly (I've only had mine open for 30 minutes or so).

Not much negative to say so far, though I really haven't used them yet. Dry erase markers are recommended, I know, and the included instructions say to use denatured alcohol to clean them. I'll need to go track some down at Walmart.

I look forward to using them (tomorrow night), and I'll have to post a little more about them then. In the meantime, color me a pleased customer.

We have gotten so used to that "new battle board smell" that it never occurred to us that it would be so obvious out of the package.

The lines on the pictures are a little heavier than the lines on actual boards. When I was first photographing them, I was having issues getting the lines to show up well. So I made a set with heavier lines. One of the nice things about our process is that we can make changes from one set to the next. This is going to allow for custom boards in just a little while. The videos were shot with standard lines, so I guess they show up better in motion than in still photos. The lines will accept the dry erase markers permanently, so they will darken with use.

We are thrilled that you are happy with your purchase. A lot of heart when into this product, and we all have high hopes that they will do well.

Hey they look cool. I have a roll up battle mat, but to make it stay flat a sheet of perspex (clear plasticy stuff- if that is not a US term). Problem is my perspex is now warped! So I might be interested but I am in NZ, possible? Horrendous shipping?

And also you website shows 1 'set', no where that I found does it mention how many pieces in a set!

Cheers

Each set comes with four "tiles." I ordered two sets and received eight of the puzzle-piece tiles. Eight pieces together in a rectangle are about the same size as a typical poster map (which is why I bought two sets to begin with).

So--denatured alcohol is the secret cleaning ingredient, eh? ;) Can't say I'm shocked--after experimenting on the battle board I use, that was the best cleaner I'd found for dry-erase marker residue.

OK, time to go camp out by my mailbox now. (Haven't been by the website in a while, so I didn't realize these had shipped!)
