Ok, some may remember the thread a while back about battle mats... I was asking for advice on whether i should get one or not. Well, I did, we used it last night and it made everything so much better.

So make or buy a battle mat today! you won't regret it!

Battlemat quick and easy:

Go to Office Supply store. Post it Sells Big Gridded Post it notes that go up on easels for presentations, buy one. You will get 30 sheets of 1" graph paper. Take the pad to Kinkos (or some other place that does lamination. Laminate 1 sheet. You now have a battlemat that you can use dry erase markers on.

Good Gaming.

Is that similar to Fiery Dragons laminated plastic boards? I used dry erase but unfortunately green leaves a tone. :/ :/ :/ Thinking about getting a regular battlemat instead from Crystal Caste now.

I just use the regular pieces of paper, it means I don't have to keep redrawing everything, and it fits in a standard binder when folded.

Of course I can only play for 30-45 minutes once a week, and leaving the markers on the mat can damage them.

One of my friends has a Crystral Caste mat, one of the big double sided ones. It's very nice, i'd recommend getting one.

I have my battle mats/tiles from Dragon Scale Counters and use wet erase markers on them. I love it. When I need to clean them off (not just wipe something off for adjustment which is easily accomplished with a napkin and some water) I just stick the entire thing under the faucet and it's clean in a few seconds.

They all fit into my bag also so I don't have to worry about a battle mat being all clunky or in the way when I'm walking around at conventions. I don't use anything else any more.

Also, if you have time to prepare, you can draw out a lot of the dungeons/rooms/encounters and lay them down when the PCs come to them rather than trying to cover up larger battlemats or drawing them mid-game. Definitely two thumbs up!

I put book covering plastic over an old Go board I had lying around. It's a little small but seems to work well, and if it starts getting marked up I can always replace the plastic.

experiementation indicates that a dry erase marker does leave a smudge on the laminate. Oh well, It was a good idea. But yeah, BMs do enhance the game.
