Mistwell
Crusty Old Meatwad
This weekend was the auction. I did some quick blogging live from the show, and I thought some folks might be interested in seeing those blogs.

Writing live from the Auction Network auction of BSG items with my wife, who is their official blogger for the weekend. They dropped me their wireless codes, so I figured I would get in a post while I could.
This place is crazy. First, the stuff they are auctioning is out of this world cool. I imagined all this stuff was models and shoddy up close - not so. It's all real size, all very detailed, and well made.
They have full sized raptors and transports that are literally larger than a swimming pool. Tons of costumes, and the costumer here on site to answer questions. Adama and Roselyn's desks. Starbucks Etruscan statutes. Everyone's dog tags. An amazing picture from the first cylon war that I guess hung behind the Old Man's desk. Heck...his entire office is here, set up like his office. Bridge consoles. The battle bridge, which would make a kick ass gaming table. The cylon bacta-tank like tub, which would make a great hot tub. Tons of concept art that would look great framed.
There is a group of fans dressed like pilots, cylons, etc.. And they look quite good actually. Very detailed, very authentic, and for the most part not douches.
The auction itself is going smashing, and it's exciting to watch. The first auctioneer is good. They have 1300 net bidders right now (grew to over 2000 later), and a room of a couple hundred so far. Stuff is going for MUCH higher prices than they expected. Things that were stated as estimated $200-$300 are sometimes going for $1200 and up. Some Galactica S1 concept art went for $2200, and they expected I think $500. You can tell everyone is pretty happy with how the auction is proceeding so far, and I think they way underestimated the interest in framable art, particularly lots with multiple sheets of concept art.
A long time NBC news anchor in San Diego is the second auctioneer. Things are delayed at the moment due to connectivity being down.

Actor who plays Col. Tigh is here right now. So is actor who plays Zarek, and actress who plays Kat. Chatted with Tigh. Melody discussed various accents in Canada with him. Nice guy. Said he had to re-audition because he was told he sounded too Canadian at first.

Went to the Frak afterparty at the hotel next door, and the actor who plays Saul Tigh (Mike Hogan I think is his name), and the actress who plays Kat (Luciana Carro), both went as well. Tigh in fact went with us in the elevator there, and we got some time to hang out with the both of them at the party. Both very nice people, very down to earth. Kat looks completely different in person (and very pretty). Mike Hogan was a bit smaller than I expected, but otherwise looks pretty much the same as his character (though with two good eyes). He was the life of the party, and stayed quite a long time (well past when we left).
Here are some other random photos from the event so far:
Melody spent the day blogging from the comfort of one of the Colonial One chairs:
Before the public was let in, the let her play with a Raptor
And a Viper
And Roslyn's desk:

I so wanted this for a gaming table!
Michael Hogan (Saul Tigh) was in the auction Grand Hall today. He stood for a round of applause as he donated Saul Tigh's glass liquor bottles with the proceeds going toward the Performing Arts of Vancouver. After the bidding war was over and the items were sold, Michael stood and barked, "So say we all!" The crowd roared back "So say we all!". Geekdom reigns supreme!

Sara, a first-time bidder and official BSG auction volunteer dressed in Duty Blues just won D'anna's New Caprica outfit (lot 291) for $400. It was the ONLY item she bid on and the ONLY item she wanted. She was so happy, she burst into tears.
