She was originally a member of the military academy because of her sports career -  she was a Pyramid Player, but when her knee was injured (the first time), she was unable to continue the career. So she eventually decided to become a pilot instead - and figured out she was good at it. It might also explain her broad amount of skills - she tried out different possible career paths after her injury, until she found out that Pilot would be the right one... (And it also explains her lack of formal discipline - she originally wasn´t in there for the military, she was there for the sports...)[/spoiler]</blockquote>
