The classes in B5 tend to follow the pattern of giving a bonus feat from a thematically-linked selection one level, class feature from a thematically-linked selection the next. It's not quite as open as the talent tree system, sort of a mid-way step.The main difference is in the fragility of the characters - B5 was designed so that you'd think twice if somebody pulled a gun on you, SW expects you to dive in whilst deflecting the blaster bolts with your lightsaber.
