Beastland Ferocity + Delay Death

Hi all,

Was just flipping through the Spell Compendium last night, and was wondering how these spells combine. I don't have the SC handy, but I believe that Beastland Ferocity gives the recipient bonuses in combat when they are at -1 to -9 hit points, but they still die at -10. Delay Death allows the recipient to function at any negative hit point total (not dead at -10) until the duration expires.

Would someone under the benfit of both spells get the combat bonuses from BF when they are at less than -9 HP (-10, -11 etc.)?

If that's how the spells are worded, I see no reason for it not to work.

Just remember that this is a very risky combination. When you're running around at -11 hit points and the only thing keeping you alive is a spell, one dispel magic can really ruin your day.

It's a great spell combo as Beastland Ferocity allows you to act normally while in the dying state and Delay Death extends the dying state indefinitely (for the duration).

The Omniscificer relys on this spell combo to withstand nigh-infinite damage.

No. The combo does not work that well. The spell does seem to allow one to act while at -10 and worse if under the effect of the Delay Death. The Strength enhancement only applies between -1 and -9.

"While between -1 and -9 hit points, the creature gains a +4 enhancment bonus to strenght. If the creature is reduced to -10 HP it dies normally"

Hell, if someone is trying to combo the with the Delay Death spell, this line could be used to drop them dead.

If the creature is reduced to -10 HP it dies normally

Sure it is a bit of a stretch, but if they are trying to abuse the generocity of Delay Death, they deserve it!

Hmm, that's kind of the wording I was concerned about.

Honestly, I think that both interpretations are valid...one of those line calls...

If we're going to get that legalistic about it, then you die only if taken to exactly -10 at any point. If you're taken from -1 to -9 to -256 in one shot, then RAW you're fine.

Don't you also need Diehard to actually act while "not dying" where-ever in the negatives? Needing a feat with a pre-req (and both Endurance and Diehard suck pretty hard) to make a two buff spell tactic even work crimps the style a tad. And I agree with Frank, in that if Beastland specifies -1 to -9, that's the only range you'd get the benefit. I absolutely DO NOT agree with his incredibly brutal reading of the die normally at -10 part of the combo, though.
