Ever since the PRC (Parody Roleplaying Class) was first introduced in OOTS, there have been more than a few takes on it. Let's try another one. For those unfamiliar with the source... Heathens! Now that we have that out of the way... The Dashing Swordsman was introduced as a PRC in Order of the Stick, with one specific quality: You get to add your Charisma bonus to melee damage, if and only if you can include witty reparte' to the combat. Think rapier wit if you like. Additional qualities: The class seems to either require or enable dramatic entrances and daring escapes, swinging on ropes and vines, crashing through windows, and other feats of cinematic daring-do. So let's start with the prerequisites: BAB +5 Perform (any) 10 Alignment : Any non-evil (+any non-lawful???) Other??? Class Abilities: Rapier Wit Use Mundane Device Emulate Role Model Rapier Wit: The ability to add Charisma bonus points to melee damage, when including cutting remarks, sharp observations or painful puns. Functionally, a Perform check equal to 10 + CR of opponent, with a cumulative 1 point penalty for each round this is used in melee, to reflect the difficulty in coming up with new zingers. Perform check can be in anything that *doesn't* require an implement, such as a musical instrument. The penalties "reset" when changing types of opponent. For example, if fighting a horde of Orcs, the same puns get tired, even if it's a new Orc. If they include Goblins, however, there's a whole new category of verbal gymnastics available. Use Mundane Device: The Dashing Swordsman can use any makeshift weapon as if proficient with it, if (and only if) his primary weapon has been lost, disarmed, or is otherwise unavailable. Emulate Role Model: The main thing that drives the Dashing Swordsman is the vision he or she has about how a hero *should* act. Thus this class ability grants them the gift of being able to act like a hero, with the emphasis on "act". They can emulate any one skill, feat, or non-supernatural class ability possessed by any companion or party member, using Perform: Acting in place of their role model's skill check (where applicable). They cannot exceed their role model's actual ability in this, so their bonus will be equal to their Perform: Acting *OR* the companion's actual bonus, whichever is less. This ability can be employed one time each day per level in Dashing Swordsman, and only works when there's an audience present for them to be performing for. BAB progression should be poor, though Emulate Role Model would allow them to emulate a better BAB progression for a short period of time. Reflex Save should be good, Will and Fort saves should be poor, though again they could emulate someone else's Will or Fort saves with the ERM ability. As someone else noted in their take on the class, the big secret of the Dashing Swordsman is that he isn't a very good swordsman, but can rise to the occasion when the situation calls for it. I think some bonus feats may be in order, but I'm unsure about continuing spell progression. Any suggestions? I'm uncertain if this is one to blend with Paladin, so I left question marks by alignment requirements of non-lawful. Opinions welcome.
