Beguiler

Any other beguilers out there, or anyone see one in play? What Advanced Learning spells work well?

I'm thinking of taking Phantasmal Assailant, but I have a very simple question. I can't remember if the ability damage from a spell stacks or not. I'm assuming it does, and can't quickly find where RAW says this. I know penalties do not stack, but for this spell it's ability damage, not a penalty (like ray of enfeeblement). Can I cast this multiple times and kill an opponent?

I'm also trying to boost my DCs as high as possible. At 4th level the gnome has a starting 16 intelligence (28 pt buy) with a +2 enhancement bonus from a headband. Phantasmal Assailant is 2nd level. Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus feats taken, and the Beguiler has Cloaked Casting. DCs at this point for Phantasmal Assailant would be 20 I think. Any suggestions for increasing this?

Ability damage doesn't stack, but only because it's not an ongoing effect and so the stacking rules don't apply. Ability damage works just like hit point damage, once you take it, ti's there until healed.

Ah OK. So it should be pretty easy to kill most opponents with a few high DC Phantasmal Assailants (assuming they can be affected by it to begin with).

Any other good spells for Advanced Learning? Any experiences with a beguiler?

I ended up taking Fengut <http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20030706a> as my first advanced learning spell. That way I got an illusion spell that nauseated with a fort save. Good for whacking casters out of commission for a few rounds.

That was, I have discovered, the real strength of the Beguiler: it's an EXCEPTIONAL support person, great for giving the warriors a chance to shine.

He is looking at what I had already consider well worth taking in his with my Ninja/beguiler in his war of the burning sky campaign.

Clarification: I am already playing a beguiler (Living Greyhawk) whereas you are still considering multiclassing into one. :)

Incapacitate and then kill, as opposed to kill directly, yes.

My two choices so far. From the Spell Compendium.

1) Distract Assailant
2) Ray of Stupidity (no save! stackable INT damage! Helpless at 0 INT!)

Best to check with your DM on the ray of Stupidity spell... too broken in my books. It's too good against entire types of critters.

Do you have Dire Animal or Hydra problems?? Are they eating all your kids??
Well... do I have a spell for you!

One shot of this little baby will knock them unconscious... and then you can chop them up for YOUR dinner!

Just 4 easy payments to broken-spells-"R"-us.com...
