Begun the miniature Clone Wars Have

Gospog

First Post
I am working on re-creating the CLone Wars in 28mm scale.

The Epic Duels boxed sets have been a great help in this and I'm hoping that the Collectible Mini Game will be next year, as well.

For now, my first major project was a Hailfire Droid. I posted it in the proper place, over in the Art Gallery, but please follow this link to there and check it out.

didn't the press release say the first set of SW minis will be from the original trilogy? you might have to wait until an expansion comes out to get your Clone Wars minis...

D4, you are correct, and that's cool. I can wait. In the interim, I have a squad of Stormtroopers and an AT-ST that could use back-up. ;)

Cergorach, here's a link for Epic Duels:

The models are poorly painted and flimsy. But thier thin plastic makes them perfect for conversion and re-painting. In the case of the CLones, I've just been re-painting them and mounting them on bases. As for the droids, I just finished converting four SUper Battle Droids in to new poses, and priming them black.

Tell me more about those Epic Duels boxed sets, what do they contain, how big is everything, etc.
As Gospog, I also have picked up a set or two of the Epic Duels that I painted up for our Star Wars game. Pretty decent for the price. There was also "The Queens Gambit" which was a similar game for Ep I that had a *lot* of mini-potential also... tons of battle droids and a few Jedi types, etc. Hard to find because it's OOP, and expensive when you do most of the time. Check ebay if you are curious.

The sculpts on the Epic Duels are ok at best, some are pretty crappy, but it's a good source of cheap minis for Star Wars specific characters.

My GM uses the Epic Duels minis for our game; they're usually sufficient, but Chewie has stood in for both a Massassi monster and a Trandoshan. We're all looking forward to the minis game, but the release date is just too far away for us to wait.

Yeah, I hate to do stand-in's for key miniatures, so a while back when we did Star Wars I went on a spree of finding suitable alternatives. For specific races I picked up a few WEG, some micro-machines, and a variety of minis for human-types. I did some conversions that turned out fairly well for Trandoshans, Duros, and a few others, including some Jedi conversions that were fun.

It would be nice to have the minis we need in a variety of sculpts... when this comes out I'll probably go against my anti-random clix nature and pick a few up, because I can always use the junk ones to do conversions on other minis for more variety. Plus, you can really never have too many stormtroopers/clone troopers.

Note that while many of the sculpts on the Epic Duels are not that great, and most are a bit anemic or 'skinny' compared to most modern 28mm metal, there are a few good ones in there. The Jango and Boba Fett figs are pretty decent with so-so paint, as are a few others.
