While we at Tricky Owlbear Publishing, Inc. continue to produce the "Behind the Spells" series (and other goodies) for pdf retail, we're also now in league with the great and powerful Kobold Quarterly to bring you smaller issues for their website. The first of these is BtS: Color Spray and you can find it HERE!

You are invited to comment on this issue either here or over at the KQ.com forums and also to comment on what spells you think deserve the "Behind the Spells" treatment in the future.

Can't get enough "Behind the Spells"? Remember that Tricky Owlbear is still running its Black Friday Weekend Sale on the Compendium through Monday.

Cool. I cannot seem to find the OGL associated with that article, though. Little help?

I'm not sure how Wolfgang handles OGL for his web freebies. I can tell you, typically with BtS, the spell secrets and the new rules material under "Related Research" are open content.

Thanks, Bret. Maybe you could give WB a nudge and ask him to post a link to his policy/OGL so that the OGC material is properly available for re-use. As an Open movement proponent I have no doubt he he wants/has things in order so I bet I am just overlooking a link somewhere.

Hm, the new article for magic aura isn't bad, but I'd hoped there'd be a little more. Something like a magic item property that'd permanently let the item detect as nonmagical (though I'm not sure if that's already in a d20 product somewhere) for a minor addition to the price.

That's not a bad idea. Regrettably, I'm limited in my word count for KQ. Wolfgang requested about 1,000 words and Magic Aura exceeds that already. After writing 40 of these issues at 2,300+ words, it's tough to pare it down. Look for more content when Compendium II comes out (loooong down the road).
