I think he got some things right and some things wrong. Right: - the OGL debacle turned some very visible supporters away from D&D that funnel fewer new players to it as a consequence. They now either create their own TTRPGs (Matt Colville, Critical Role) or diversified instead of being focused on D&D 5e. There are also enough fans that moved away to make a difference in the word-of-mouth onboarding of new players. This will hurt WotC / D&D. - The MCDM RPG, ToV, etc. kickstarters probably are the largest ones for those systems, that is how it is with the core books, so not that much of a surprise. - I do believe D&D is close to plateauing however, and the OGL accelerated this Wrong: - I do not expect the 2024 version to be sufficiently different to need a new SRD for compatible material to be released, and whether one will be released is still tbd. This means the market stays largely intact and most 3pps will continue to produce 5e compatible material that works for D&D 2014, 2024 and adjacent games (ToV) - Due to the similarities of 2014 and 2024 D&D, Kobold Press will have a hard time positioning ToV as the 5e Pathfinder. That the OGL survived (with an SRD under CC) does not help them either. They will pick up some disgruntled D&D players, but to me it does curb their upward potential / ability to become a Paizo. At the same time their similarity to D&D allows them to release content that works for both systems, so even if ToV bleeds players, it does not affect Kobold Press all that much. ToV is more an insurance policy then against other 'irrational' moves by WotC. - Paizo moving slightly away from 5e tropes (alignment, attribute values) does not matter as it already was its own game more than a 5e variant. - The Golden Age probably still continues for a while, as D&D remains dominant and now is a lingua franca with several compatible systems forming in the wake of the OGL debacle (A5E (I know, it was before), ToV, C7D20, maybe / probably others)
