I'd say it's possible. His arguments are well reasoned to a degree, though with some items I disagree with (I don't agree that it was necessarily the various campaign settings that killed TSR, that was just as SYMPTOM of what was happening. What hurt T$R was that they invested more money into projects which they could not possibly make back with that project. If that means that they spent 60K developing a CS that only sells 8K worth of stuff, that's bad business decisions. The results of the sale of product is merely a symptom of a bigger problem on the back end). (I also don't agree with the idea that WotC had "Loads" of cash when they bought T$R. It was particularly difficult for WotC if I recall and gave them a few financial difficulties of their own (though no where close to what T$R had been going through). Overall though, I think his arguments are well reasoned. It could go either way I think. The revamp of D&D coming out this year could be HIGHLY successful, or it could wilter somewhat (I think the biggest problem is that people see it as a continuation of D&D rather than a revamp or rewrite...so it could turn into a Wii to Wii-U situation. That would not be good). On the otherhand, the reason to NOT make it obvious of a revamp is so that they can continue the momentum that they already have with 5e. I think initial sales will bolster the brand at least for 2024 (4e actually bolstered the brand when it came out initially IMO, it was what happened in the ensuing years and the continued performance that saw some drastic declines in some areas...once again...IMO). It's the long term effects that have me worried. It may be worrying enough to have a real 6e being in stealth development at this point just in case. PS: Though it may be A Golden Age, I don't think it is THE Golden Age. I think the Golden Age of RPGs/D&D was probably from around 1979 - 1983/89 or there abouts depending on how you look at it. It could be a Silver Age, though I think many may call the Silver age from 2000 - 2005 due to 3e and it's burst on the scene. In that case this could be more of the Bronze Age or something similar for RPGs.
