Berserk #6

Got an e-mail showing Berserk #6 is coming out 5/27/03'. Anyone got any confirmation on that?

How about the manga? Dark Horse is supposed to be bringing some of the titles over here. Anyone got a solid release date on that? From what I've seen, it's fantastic.

It should be out right now, I'm picking it up this weekend, don't know if I should be excited because it's the last one or sad because it's the last one.

OK, now since you may not have seen the series through yet, I want you to listen to me, now. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Seriously.

Understand that what you are about to see IS NOT THE END. It is critically important that you understand that. Remember that the entire series is told in flashback (from episode I, essentially), and that the story does not end here. The animated series only covers a part of the manga, and leaves quite a few things out (not the least of which is quite possibly the series coolest character, the Skull Knight).

I tell you this because the end of the animated series is....well, Damaging, if you're not prepared for it. Hell, even if you are. I can fill in the blanks for you, if you'd like, as could Scorch, who's even more of a Beserk expert than I am (though we've both read all 24 volumes currently out). The animated series, in case you're curious, covers volumes 4 through 15, IIRC. A lot happens after the animated series ends.

There have been rumors of a sequel animated series, which would be great, or at least some OVAs. The Dreamcast game, again if you're curious, takes place somewhere around volume 17, as a side-story.

Yea I heard that this was not the end of it. There has been talk by the author of doing a for America anime or manga of Berserk, due to it's popularity in America. I'd love to read the comics but Manga is hard to come by in Western Kentucky. Being a long time anime fan I've gotten used to stories that just end, it seems to happen a lot in stuff that gets imported. Pilot Canidate from Adult Swim is a good example of one that just ended without actually even comming close to finishing the tale.

Dark Horse Manga in relation to TV Series

From what I understand, DH will be releasing the first three volumes of the manga and then go from there if it sells well.

These were three stories, two short and one long, in those volumes. The first one we saw in condensed form in episode one of the TV show: Guts versus the Snake Apostle (Disciple, whatever...) The most notable change is that they left out Puck for the TV version. He (she/it) was a very nice breath of fresh air in an otherwise depressing world.

My only complaint is that you will not see immediately what happens after the Black Sun Over Midland event in the last volume of the TV series for which you will have to wait till Volume 13/14 to see. It has one of the most inspired speeches I have ever read concerning revenge (Guts: THIS IS A DECLARATION OF WAR!!!!) and how Guts becomes the Black Swordsman (as WizarDru and I like to call it "How Guts got the Dragon Slayer and got his Groove back").
