Berserker?

Is there a berserker base or prestige class anywhere? I had a character who was a berserker from the old 2nd edition Celts book. I know I can just take barbarian to get the berserker rage, but all the other benefits of the barbarian do not fit well with my character.

Well, you can wait and see what the 3.5e version of the barbarian class has to offer.

OR tweak the dwarven battlerager class for non-dwarves.

what is D&Dg? Basically I was looking for a base class, a feat, or a prestige class that gave rage ability. I want a berserker character. A warrior that can go berserk, but does not get all that 'uncivilized' barbarian stuff (damage resistance, fast movement, uncanny dodge, etc).

The Oriental Adventures book has the Sohei, a priest warrior with Ki Frenzy (it is a base class), and the Singh Ranger (PrC) that all offer Raging abilities, as far as I know.

I believe most Berserker Classes do have a Rage ability as prerequisite, so it will be difficult to find another way...

You can always just take one level of Barbarian and get extra uses by the feat "Extra Rage" (Masters of the Wild, gains 2 extra uses per day).

Or you could work together with your DM and tailor the Barbarian class to suit your needs.
(In the DMG (the witch) and in the Masters of the Wild (urban ranger) are examples of how to do it)

Instead of Fast Movement, the class could grant Heavy Armor Profiency (not a great bonus, since you would probably have chosen fighter for the alternatives).
Uncanny Dodge could become some bonus feats. (Predetermined or from a feat list)
You might want another skill list.

Maybe it would be better to work directly with the Fighter class, change the bonus feat progression to one per every three levels, and instead give Rage abilities.

Are you really sure Damage reduction is so bad a feature for a berserker?

I'd say drop Survival (Wilderness Lore) and Listen as class skills, drop the illiteracy, and there you have a Berserker. If fast movement bothers you, change it for heavy weapon proficiency, as mentioned before.

As Mustrum suggested, the sohei and singh rager are examples of classes that grant a rage-like ability (ki frenzy) while remaining "civilized" fighter-types (the singh rager even has an alignment requirement of lawful!).

D&Dg is Deities and Demigods. The berserker PrC in there does have rage as a requirement, IIRC. So does the dwarven battlerager PrC (in Races of Faerun).

IMHO, you should just give your character a single level of barbarian. He won't get most of the "wild" qualities (DR, uncanny dodge, serious wilderness skills) but will get rage and fast movement. (Is fast movement really such a problem?) He'll be literate, assuming that he's got fighter levels; he'll have a fighter's heavy armor proficiency and feats; and he'll qualify for the Extra Rage feat and/or the berserker PrC, both of which are pretty apropos for a 2e Celts berserker.

The Beserker in Dieties and Demigods does not have rage as a prerequisite,(I am currently in the middle of moving else I would list the prerequisites), basicaly I believe it is a bab requirement and skill requirements(+5 bab).

The class is d12 hp 2 skill points a level and adds 2 rage like abilities, that do not stack with rage.

The primary one is the frenzy ability, which is I believe adds+6 to str and con , however while in a frenzy once all the enemies are dispatched you have to make a will save to avoid attacking your friends. If there are no friends of foes you must attack something during the duration of the frenzy even if that means attacking rocks and such.

The second ability is a totem form that allows a hybrid animal form,(bear, eagle, etc) to be taken that adds +2 to str and con.

The class also grants a better rate of damage reduction (4dr by 10th level), the largest drawback to the prestiege class is it has a 3/4 bab progression, which frankly in my opinion is a little to much "balancing".
The Prestige class is at the end of the Norse Pantheon
