Hey Phil,

How much would it cost to commission a specific custom PDF?

Thanks, -- N

This is kinda funny, cause in the "Did you win a dozen" thread he asks how much folks would pay for the service and noone answered him. :p

Well, there are two ways this could be approached.

1. Complete custom job solely for your use. Base price would be something like $100 +$0.02/word (which is dirt cheap). So a 3,000 word PDF -- along the same length as most "Dozens" would cost $160. This would get you a custom PDF written to suit your needs that is exclusive to you.

2. Complete custom job for sale through Ronin Arts. The same as above but minus the $100 base fee. The PDF would be written to suit your needs and then released as a Ronin Arts product. Each quarter I'd send you 50% of the income from that PDF (after RPGNow costs). Think of it as an investment.

This is kind of a weird way to handle game work. I wonder if it is something people would enjoy.

EDIT: Obviously, this is an idea. I'd love to discuss the concept.

Huh, didn't see that -- it was a thick thread.

Anyway, I'm asking now.

It wasn't a thick thread, it was a VERY thick thread.

I have utterly failed to see a rule of predicting which threads become mega-threads. And it seems with a crowd like this it would be easier.

I am consistently fascinated at what lives and dies. :)

Ouch, the actual finances of the industry makes my head hurt. Based on quick calculations, to hire you to do volume 2 of the Demiplane project would cost 550+ (now artwork). Damn! I guess I will have to continue to promote the first volume and most excellent product until it recieves the recognition it deserves. Thus making the 2nd volume a good venture for Ronin Arts.

In terms of time it would be about two weeks to put something of that size together (the first one took longer because of startup time). $550 for two weeks of work isn't all that good.

Writing can get expensive. The thing to keep in mind is that this would also cover the layout and generating the PDF.

As I said, this is a weird way to do it. I'm not even sure if this method of production would work in this industry.

I thought I should let you know that I bought a copy of the Demiplane book from Lulu.com. After going through it several times it just seems like it is a book that I'd love to have in print Now, I wait for customs. (I think this brings print sales to 3, if the boards are to be trusted.)

Interesting. I'm going to go count words, then I'll get back to you. I've got no clear idea of what 3k vs. 10k words looks like...

Thanks! -- N
