Best 3E Eberron and Forgotten Realms Books?

Ulric

First Post
I'm kinda happy about 4e because of all the cheap 3e books I'll soon be able to buy. With that in mind, I only have one Eberron book and one Forgotten Realms book (the main campaign/setting books). I love 'em both. I want to buy more Eberron and Forgotten Realms books. Which ones do you like/recommend, and why? Thanks.

ADD: And which Eberron and Forgotten Realms titles were a disappointment...ones that I should probably stay away from?

Well, Races of Faerun was pretty good as a general splatbook, same with Player's Guide to Faerun also good. Faiths and Pantheons was a good treatment of the Faerunian Pantheon (but if you can find the old 2e sourcebooks Faiths & Avatars, Powers & Pantheons, and Demihuman Deities get them too, they have the best "fluff" ever on religion in Faerun).

With the exception of Magic of Eberron (which I didn't care for) and Races of Eberron (I liked the racial 'crunch' options, but the fluff felt a little lacking), all the Eberron source books have been excellent quality and very useful in my games. The Forge of War, and Faiths of Eberron are the tops IMO. Sharn: The City of Towers did a good job of making Khorvaire's largest metropolis come to life.

Here are the ones that are stand-out excellent for me:
Forge of War. Essential information for anyone playing a character on Khorvaire.
Secrets of Xen'drik. It inspired an entire campaign..
Player's Guide to Eberron. The "What Do You Know" sidebars alone are worth the price of admission.
Dragonmarked. Excellent resource if dragonmarks are remotely involved.

My favourites of the 3E Realms books are Silver Marches, Lost Empires of Faerûn and Power of Faerûn. Worst is Player's Guide to Faerûn: not a player's guide, just a set of rules updates with a couple of appendices.

There are a lot of 3.5 books I'm looking forward to picking up once the prices fall through the floor, too.

Here's what I like/dislike from what I own and/or read through. Sharn: City of Towers is a really good city book, and I liked City of Splendors too. Races of Eberron and races of Faerun were both decent. Avoid the Eberron Explorer's Handbook, I was very disappointed with it. Champions of Valor was also kind of blah. Player's Guide to Faerun has some decent stuff in it, but it's mostly a 3.0 - 3.5 update that probably should have been released as a web enhancement - I felt a bit ripped off after buying it. Magic of Eberron and Dragonmarked are both pretty cool, lots of fun new stuff in each with lots of Eberron flavor.
