Best AL seasons?

Tales and Chronicles

I got 5e core books for all of my players last month and work on training at least some of them at the art of DMing :P

I want them to try to run small adventures, probably starting with LMoP, but wanted other options with a bunch of one shots that could be linked together as a small campaign.

So, as the title says, what AL season has the best adventures in your opinion? I get that probably not every adventure in a specific season will be equally awesome, but what are the highlights?

I don't know them especially well, but from skimming the last 4 or so, I'd say none of them is an especially cohesive campaign framework, they are mostly (but not all) very much unrelated. Certainly, the AP adventures are purposely designed to be Episodic ala the X-Files, i.e. there is a broad theme (say Ravenloft), then each adventure is virtually self-contained and really only uses the Theme as a back-drop for a specific Mission/Quest; every now and again one might be a sequel to another, but not usually.

So bearing that in mind, I think it's better to find a couple of specific adventures that float your boat, start there.

I haven't payed much attention to the ones designed for level 1 adventurers sorry, my only "I've actually run it" recommendation is for higher levels (DDAL5-04 In Dire Need); however I do remember liking the look of a few of the early AL5 series. However, I think they are all fairly linear and light on plot, as they are designed to be run in a single session. I'm sure how much real mileage you'd get stringing a few together into a "mini campaign", unless you do some work beefing up the meta-plot. Of course, if you'd prefer an Episodic structure, then you're probably in luck, just choose the good ones (you can find reviews here and there e.g. Meric's Musings).

Whereas LMoP is, from what I have read and heard, a really good mini-campaign.

Thx, you're probably right. I read thru the second season just to have a look and after some adventures I asked myself why would a character still care about the thin plot presented. I delve the DMguild to find other possibilities then.

The tier one Storm Kings Thunder modules do, for the most part, have a certain flow. And some of them manage to be less railroady than is typical of AL. But, chronology wise, they overlap the other two tiers, so it stretches logic a bit to finishes the tier one series and then move to tier 2. LMOP is a great adventure. It might not break down completely into distinct one shots, but there are lots of points where the addition and/or disappearance of one or more characters wouldn't be hard to explain.

I'm running Season 1 for AL at the moment and find it generally very good. All set in one location (Phlan) and there is a big metaplot that doesn't intrude too much into the modules. They're linked by locations and factions and some recurring NPCs etc and the modules are simple to run and pretty decent. It wouldn't take very much effort at all to beef up the metaplot aspects really if you wanted too.
