Best Aquatic PrC's (and other stuff) for a Bow Ranger?

I am in a Forgotten Realms Campaign. Our DM has let it be known that a good deal of our campaign will be on/near Tashluta (Shining Sea area). He has also stated that a lot of our campaign will be on/near the Sea. I had been positioning my Ranger for a nasty ass Bowmen---but I am getting the hint that I may need to adapt a bit. What are some good PrC's, feats, and magic items that might help? I have seen the Dread Pirate from Complete Adventurer and have Stormwrack---but I am looking for something that will allow me to continue to be a bowman, while picking up some seaworthy talents. The Leviathan Hunter is interesting---but has a bit of a narrow focus.
Thoughts?

Thinking outside the box:

1) Take Wild Talent and get into one of the Kineticist PrCls (The Mind's Eye: Variant Pyrokineticist Prestige Class (v.3.5)). The same feats that make your PC a good archer will make him a good kineticist when he launches his energy bolts. In addition, that PrCl will be boosting his weapon damage as well.

The Planar Handbook has a PrCl called the Elemental Warrior that may give you similar benefits.

2) A single level of Horizon Walker with Aquatic Terrain Mastery gets you a +4 competence bonus on Swim checks, or a +10-foot bonus to your swim speed if you have one, and a +1 insight bonus on attack and damage rolls against aquatic creatures.

3) Going with Kensai, you could eventually make your chosen weapon something like a brilliant energy weapon or some such. A similar effect would be gained- albeit by a much more convoluted path- by taking levels in SoulBow.

4) If your DM is using DCv1, there is a Sorcerer feat calle Aquatic Bloodline. Of course, you'd have to take a level of Sorcerer to gain its benefits. Similarly, the Draconic Heritage feat tree- again, Sorcerer only (from CompArc)- could get you access to certain aquatic (dragon) themed abilities.

Just make sure to get a flaming bow and aim for the sails.

Really I don't see what would be wrong with an archery build at sea that would require special tweaking, unless you mean you'll have base class abilities (ranger tracking for instance) which you won't get much use out of. Fighting on ships means shooting at the other ship and the people on board while you are closing (or fleeing!).

The only possible issue could be the short range combat once your ship is boarded, but that should be a relatively minor concern.

I can see a problem if there may be an issue of actually going underwater. If so, you'll want some kind of item that will let you breathe, and another that will let you move your normal speed or better. Cloak of the Manta Ray fills both, provides an additional attack form and is fairly cheap (under $8K).

Other than that, though, a good ranged combatant is always a boon to the party. If some winged sunofawyrm comes out of the sky at the ship you're on, its going to be up to you and the spellslingers to soften it up before it lands on deck or damages your sails beyond repair.

And if your spellslinger is primarily fire oriented, it will be on your shoulders to take out anything near the sails- you'll be a lot more precise than someone lobbing fireballs near those big, flammable means of propulsion.

However, you might want to consider something like a throwing weapon enchanted with Returning (and Throwing if you need it and Distance if you can afford it)- or an edged weapon and the Whirling Blade spell- to use when you won't be able to replenish arrows. You'll still get full use of nearly all your archery feats. Might I suggest either an axe of some kind, or if you want to burn the feat, the Greatspear.

A harpoon could also be a good choice.

If you did use my idea about being a Kineticist, a Cryo would be interesting. If nothing else, you should be able to do all kinds of things with the buoyancy of ice you create.

Which is why I suggested the soulbow, a kensai with brilliant energy, or (some of) the kineticists- the projectiles in question are not physical, and thus should have reduced or non-existent penalties in those situations.
