Best old school fluff?

The "bree-yark" thread got me thinking about all the fun little fluff in old school modules. I loved the descriptions of kuo-toa religious practices in D2, gnomes having huge noses in BD&D and so on.

What's some of your favorite old school fluff? (If it has stats, it's not fluff.)

There were some pretty cool setups and speeches in the old Desert of Desolation series - "The place is Set, but no man knows the time," and so forth, not to mention the old gnome, Prith, with a lithp, who dug with a thpoon. :D

As Keep on the Borderlands is already taken, and I don't have Vault of the Drow at hand (now that is weird mindbending stuff), here is the whole background to Judges Guild's Tegel Manor:
Tegel Manor, a great manor-fortress on the seacoast, is rumored to be left over from ancient days when a charm was placed over it protecting it from most of the ravages of time and human occupation. The hereditary owners, whos family name is Rump, have been amiss in their traditional duty of providing protection for the market village to the west. Some have said tha this failing and their bizarre eccentricities have led to their corruption. Many have found the manor and area to be a dangerous place to visit!
Descriptive, yet short and to the point.

The fact bullettes are known for their love of halfling meat.

In my mind that was reason alone to keep the old burrow-living halflings - so they can be dug up and devoured. :D
