For my definition of "best", I went with books that made me say "I want to play this stuff AT ONCE" as soon as I put the book down. That said, here goes: Arcana Unearthed - After looking at all the new races, classes, feats and spells, this made me want to pick up dice immediately and roll up a character. 3rd Edition got me wanting to DM again, but AU made me want to play. Still haven't yet, though :(. Deadlands - Deadlands came out right as I was in the midst of this Unforgiven/Tombstone obsession. I saw the Huckster and I was hooked. This still ranks as the only game I've had more fun playing in than DMing for. Delta Green - Best game I've never played. But they sure are an awesome read, and eerily realistic. Cyberpunk 2020 - Hands down, the best munchkin game in town*. Shadowrun had better chargen and setting, but its Essence rules really kept you from going full metal gonzo with your Street Samurai. In contrast, my parties in CP2020 resembled nothing so much as WWIII mechanized battalions. Nothing's fun like using your full-body replacement cyborg equipped with a man-portable railgun to dispatch 'roid-raging boostergangers. W00T! *Well, to be honest, nothing screams "Let's go knock over some pantheons!" like a properly tweaked Rifts party, but after a few years of D20, I can't stomach another 3-hourlong Automatic Dodge 'n Parry-fest like the average Rifts fistfight.
