While it's not all in one book, there are multiple volumes of lore for the Spinward Marches, of Traveller. It's got support built over 42 years now... and much of that lore is available online. With Marc Miller's blessing. Many worlds are fleshed out to great extents. That said, for a single volume space sector? Much harder to say. Nothing Traveller rises to greatness in one volume. Coriolis has a good bit, but the detail level isn't where I want; much of the setting's detail is in supplements. The Space Opera sectors have a good bit of text... but it's not high detail. It's a paragraph or 3 each on dozens of worlds. It's better than the Traveller sector books before Mongoose. For its era, The Triangle sourcebook for STRPG by FASA was pretty good. But for gamable detail, I have to go outside RPGs... to Starfire. Starfire's Gorm-Khanate War (for 2E) has playable detail for a large chunk of Khante space, and all of Gorm space... The Insurrection! has the Theban empire vs a segment of the Terran Empire, again, playable Starfire Campaign. It's for 3E The Stars At War lacks the overall map, but has dozens of detailed systems, and the dates and forces of the fleets (as well as full 3E stats for it. which is best is a matter of opinion...
