Here's what happened just a few hours ago in my campaign: The PCs were going through the "Forge of Fury" module. They got to the dragon at the end. The PCs included a 5th level human monk, 5th level human ranger, and a 4th level dwarven cleric. The black dragon beat them back once. It would pop its head out of the lake and breathe acid on the PCs. Then the PCs came back. While the Monk and the Ranger distracted the dragon, the dwarven cleric cast Soften Earth and Stone to bring the cavern ceiling down on the dragon's head dealing 23 hp of damage. The dragon was pinned for 2 rounds as the PCs tried to decide what to do next. They ran down a dead end cavern and had to face the dragon once again. After a couple rounds of intense fighting, the monk managed to stun the dragon for one round. That gave the other players a chance to beat it up pretty good. It tried to flee back into the lake, but the dwarven cleric threw a javelin that pierced the dragon's eye and into its brain. All the while the song "The Bridge of Khazad Dum" from the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack played in the background. It was wonderful. Ulrick
