Shadow Mastiff Conversion Notes:
- I'm not a fan of how wordy the Baying ability is, but I'm struggling to lighten its load.
- The CR of this creature comes mainly from its high DCR, as a result of its shadow blend ability. The idea is that a party that can somehow get rid of that shadow blend (clever use of light or faerie fire) should feel like their fight is easier. If both the shadow blend and the baying are rendered null, the mastiffs are kind of pushovers. I could make it a little less binary by dropping the AC a bit, but then negating the shadow blend ability might be TOO effective.
Dark Ones Conversion Notes:
- Overall, pretty content with this. Especially happy with the end-on-a-hit part of fog cloud sparing us a few dozen Concentration rolls. Most of the CR here is still coming from DCR, which is probably going to be true for a lot of these creatures - shadows tend to be elusive. An interesting note is that aside from potentially affecting AC, abilities like fog cloud and create darkness don't factor into CR at all, which is...interesting....
