I might do the categories a bit different as I would include the amount of time spent gaming and how much interest is shown about the game in general. Diehards---I plant my flag here. DM three games a week, more in the winter...plus some once a month games and pick up games. I have a lot of interest in the hobby. Interact with people online and IRL. Post comments. Read articles. So active gamer, cares about the game(s) they are in and is active a bit in the greater community. The Casual Game---I dread them. At best they somehow stumbled on to RPG as something to do when they had nothing cool to do. Worse are the ones who just Tag Along or think of it as Just A Game. The worst are just the people hanging out for some social contact, or to get away from their spouse or parents for a couple hours. They "plan" to game semi-regularly...though they don't show up for at least half the game sessions anyway. They can stay in a relaxed group that lets them miss like three session in a row, but still welcomes them back with open arms. They care little or nothing for the game. They will not even consider wasting one second of their 'real life' on the Silly Game. And they don't care about the community at all. So.....Fringe is between the two? If your not gaming at all your over in the "not gaming" or "Once Was a Gamer" category. I guess 'fringe' would be like one game session or so every six months? And posting or interacting with the community once a week or so?
