Beware the dreaded Garden Gnome...

Had to see it to believe it, but MGP actually created stats for a garden gnome. An evil one too...

This is the first time I've seen a company inject humor into a 'serious' (albeit, it was about gnomes) source book. Does anyone else have examples of this?

The excellent Frost and Fur has in its list of monsters, the dreaded snow golem. The picture is pretty cool, but it still looks like a mean version of Frosty the Snow Man.

Granted, I've used the snow golem to great effect in campaigns. Nothing rounds out an ice castle like it.

There's also the Singing Bun, which is more or less a small animated loaf of bread. It's explained as what happens when a wizard accidentally spills some of their material components into their dough. But I believe it does have some roots in folklore.

Wizards has a module called "Something's Cooking" http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20010413a that has a Calzone Golem in it. Yep, a folded pizza golem, if you hit it it squirts hot tomato sauce on you. Believe it or not, when I ran this many years back, my group had a blast and still talk about it occassionally. Just silly enough to be fun, but with an actual plot line that you could drop into almost any story arch.

Keith Baker had a Hellcow, an EL10 cow that I thought was pretty funny from the description. Never used him though.

I saw the Calzone Golem on Wizards site one time. Funny, but not sure my group would be interested in playing that one.

Were several things like this, including the hellcow, in "En Route" by penumbra press. Ergot poisoning, a drunk ghost, and several more. One of the most amusing supplements I've seen, and reasonably well written, with several contributing authors. The encounters are actually very easy to drop in too.
