It's easier to use as a setpiece defence with the caster's body locked in a secret room, not typically a setup accessible to PCs. You are missing the whole point of the 4e "npcs aren't statted as PCs" ethos, in that 4e NPCs can have possession type effects if desired. I used one In my 4e game recently, a disempowered devil who had posssesed an orc and was slowly  burning him up from the inside. I've seen 4e ghosts with possession powers, I'm sure. 4e PC effects in this area tend to be a lot more constrained, true, but that's  the price of them not being plot device spells and thus ban-fodder.</blockquote>
