So, does anyone out there have any interesting planes of existence theyve made for thier home games? I only use the Inner Planes, Hell, and the Astral in my game, all the others being home grown. Some examples to get things started. Hopefully someone else will be interested enough to add more. Ive divided the Astral plane into an Inner and an Outer Astral. The Inner surrounds the Inner Planes (elemental, Prime, and all that) and is seperated from the Outer Astral by the First Veil. The Outer Astral is a gulf separating the material realm (where material beings live) from the Outer Planes (where outsiders live). (I use the old 1E terms of Prime Material, Positive and Negative Material, and the Prime is where all of the Material Planes, including the elemental planes under that label, overlap and bleed into each other, as the prime is a mixture of all the elements plus life and death) The Astral is the gulf between planes as said in the MotP, a sort of planar fluid that lubricates the grinding of the planes (ectoplasm) Not actual liquid, but the silvery radiance itself. The Shard Realms: The current Prime Material Plane is the Second Creation, the First Creation having been shattered in universe spanning wars between the the first races. The plane shattered into fragments, each set adrift in the Inner Astral plane, floating about at random. These planes arent infinite, and at the edges they become deadly regions of spatial anomalies and elemental flux, until the space simply ends. MostShard Realms are ruled by the sole remaining member of a sentient race from the previous Prime Material who has risen to demigoodhood, and all of them fight each other in an attempt to reform thier shattered universe. The Abyss: my Abyss is a kind of "hole" in the Outer Astral, an outer plane that exists as a crack or tear that starts at the base of Hell and spiderwebs outwards, a planar vacuum full of demons, an absence of existence full of evil. It is tied to... Nihilo: Nothing. Chaos. After the Outer Astral, the Second Veil encompasses Creation (all of the other planes) and outside of this is Nothing. Nihilo is the absence of existence, and the Abyss can be seen as a crack in Creation, through which the Nothingness behind it shows. At the edge of Creation, beyond the Second Veil, a warped chaos of reality exists, as existence bleeds out into Nihilo. Essentially the Far Realm from MotP, a region of twisted concepts coming into spontaneous existence only to be obliterated as they cross into oblivion. But sometimes these blasphemies cross over into Creation instead, where they may inhabit the Outer Astral, slink into the Abyss, or even tunnel their way to the material universe. Ive got a few others Ill post later if anyone else adds to this :)
