This just in from TVshowsonDVD:

BURBANK, CA (April 2, 2008) – The wait is over! Birds of Prey, the hit WB show and the #5 most requested unreleased show on TVshowsonDVD.com, will finally make it to DVD. Three young female heroines will be fighting together, living together, and soaring into adventure
together when Warner Home Video's (WHV) releases of Birds of Prey: The Complete Series on July 29, 2008 for $39.98 SRP. Birds of Prey: The Complete Series includes all 13 episodes from the series plus all-new bonus features in a 4-disc collection.

From the creators of the CW hit Smallville, Birds of the Prey was produced in 2002 for the WB and is loosely based on the DC Comics series with the same name. The hit show brought in 7.6 million viewers each week and was the largest audience in the 18-34 demographic for the network at that time. While the world was sleeping at night, the Birds of Prey flock together to fight crime on the streets of New Gotham City. Several years after the city was abandoned by Batman, the awesome threesome of Huntress (Ashley Scott), Oracle (Dina Meyer), and Dinah (Rachel Skarsten) was formed. Huntress is the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, and can smell danger from miles away. Dinah has the gift of clairvoyance and Oracle leads the team through her cyber experience, despite being wheelchair bound by the Joker. During the course of the show, the girls are often confronted with schemes masterminded by Dr. Quinzel, but always prevail and beat her at her own game.

"The Birds of Prey continues the legacy of Batman in an action-packed show with a trio of female heroines that are adored by fans," said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV Marketing, "We are delighted to finally release Birds of Prey: The Complete Series for the very loyal fan base and a new generation of comics lovers."

In addition to the entire series, complete with 13 full episodes, Birds of Prey: The Complete Series includes never-before-seen special features such as:
  • Gotham Girls S1-3 – An animated series of shorts starring the Birds of Prey characters.

After waiting all this time, fans have been thrilled about yesterday's studio press release from Warner about the July 29th release of Birds of Prey - The Complete Series. But what if you could get it two weeks sooner?

A short time ago the studio sent out an "e-announcement" to retailers and press, showing off the first look at the package art for this release. The text that grabbed our attention was the part that said "streets 3 days before The Dark Knight hits theaters!" (seen below). Glancing down a bit, the announcement shows a July 15th release date for this set, a date confirmed by a separate listing at Warner's password-protected press site. We just called Warner, and they confirmed that the real release date IS July 15th for this title. AND we also got a high-resolution look at the package, too! See it below the e-announce clip.

So enjoy this release 2 weeks earlier, and enjoy your first look at the box. Oh, and ignore the "order due date" part; that's for retailers (to know when they have to get orders in with the studio, if they want those copies on shelves in time for street date). Nothing for consumers to worry about!

Wow! A truly poorly-conceived and poorly-executed TV show based on a comic book is finally out on DVD! Imagine, all the fun of Gotham City without any Batman or Joker mucking it up! If you're a fan of shows where that were just made up as they went along, you can't miss this one!

Okay, you didn't like the show. Thats fine; you are entitled to your opinion.

However if the masses agreed with you, it wouldn't be #5 most requested show to be put out on DVD. I, for one, am glad it is being released.

"Didn't like it"? It was exquisite! As a fan of banal dialogue and formulaic plots, I couldn't miss an episode! Neither could the rest of America. That's why it was a runaway smash hit for thirteen entire episodes! Do you remember the one where there was a mysterious guest star metahuman tracking a mysterious serial killer metahuman, and they turned out to be the same guy, and they telegraphed it from like twenty miles away? What a twist! And do you remember how Mr. Pitt from Seinfeld had to spend like five minutes at the start of every episode explaining the show's premise? Pure lightning in a bottle!

Yeah, what stronger evidence of its rampaging popularity do we need than seeing it rank #5 on some list on some website? Better recognize!

This show has so many precious little easter eggs. Let's see...

Shemar Moore playing a generic boring macho prettyboy detective before he went on to play a generic boring macho prettyboy FBI agent on Criminal Minds.

Ashley Scott playing Huntress, the butt-kicking Xena/Buffy-esque vigilante who was quick to assert for purely tacked-on dramatic effect that she was only "half metahuman", whatever that means (if Shemar ever knocked her up, might she become half-pregnant?).

Rachel Skarsten as Dinah Redmond, a completely gratuitous out-of-left-field character whose presence had every fan wondering "what is the point of this chick being here"?

Dina Meyer as Barbara Gordon who...who...hmm. Well, Oracle actually belonged in the series, and they didn't screw her character's background up very badly, and she was hot, so...damn. Busted!

Felon, it's fine if you don't like it, but please leave the thread. You don't have to pee in other peoples' Wheaties just because you were disappointed in the show.

I think he WANTS to pee in other people's Wheaties.

That reminds me. I need to buy kitchen shears. Snip. :]

The show was not put well together to attract the mainstream audience, who were probably expecting Batman to show up anytime soon. I don't know how it was in the comic book but to make the transition to TV, they should have just killed the Batman (but not Catwoman).

Funny, only a few [super-]heroine shows can go the distance (as in more than one season), the last being Alias.
