I always had a question about two of the awnshegh characters from the Birthright D&D setting, Rhuobhe Manslayer and The Spider. They are supposed to be these powerful bad guys who frighten everyone else in the region. But how can they be that threatening when they each only control one little province?
Now, I know they have some major advantages. Rhuobhe is a powerful wizard, and the Spiderfell is full of pitfalls and deadly spiders. But despite those advantages, I don’t see how those characters can be all that threatening with only one tiny region. Rhobhe is a 2/9 provence, and the Spiderfell is a 0/7. I don’t see how they could have more then a couple units under their control. One decent sized army from any of the bordering regions should be able to roll over them.
So what is the unknown factor with these guys? What is the advantage that keeps them alive despite being surrounded by antagonists that look as if they could easily squash them?
