Hi, I wanted to let everyone know that Odyssey Prime by Bizzaro Games & Eden Studios is nearing completion and is available for pre-order on Eden's site. The book should see print around September ($30 book). It uses D20 Modern & has Unisystem conversion rules.

Odyssey Prime: The Roleplaying Game of Alternative Universes and Modern Covert Operations

Almost since the beginning of time, man has predicted the end of the world. From passages in the Holy Book to the crazy nut with a sign at the street corner, visions of sweeping firestorm, tidal waves, ashen cities and worse have swirled about the fringe of our curiosity throughout history.

In no other time are we closer to the apocalypse than now.

One year ago, after decades of experiments and improvisation, a government think tank unlocked the secret of interdimensional travel with a portal constructed from alien technology.

Six months ago, a classified NASA far-space probe detected a giant asteroid on course to collide with Earth in the year 2012.

Three months ago, Project Odyssey was given the greenlight. It began the clandestine organization of scout teams to venture beyond the portal, in search of new habitats for the human race and to ensure its survival.

It's nine years till doomsday, and guess who just got recruited?

Welcome to the first day of the most important decade in human history.

Odyssey Prime is a roleplaying game of interdimensional adventures using the d20 Modern game system by Wizards of the Coast. The premise can perhaps be best summed up as "Stargate meets Armageddon," combining the classic sci-fi staple of alien-world explorations with a touch of modern thriller. Player characters are recruited, sometimes involuntarily, by Project Odyssey to enter the portal and scout the unknown on the other side.

They have no idea what they will find. It could be one vast barren land as far as the eyes can see, a civilization ripped from the myths and storybooks, or the deepest depth of hell itself . . . or it could just be the perfect, unspoiled new home for the human population. They could encounter spectacular magic, primitive rituals, high tech, low tech, ultra tech, weird tech, no tech, or anything and everything in between. Whatever the environment, they are expected to explore it and make evaluations quickly. Time is no ally!

While the scout teams are busy checking out new worlds, the "Damage Control" boys roll up their sleeves for the dirty work back home. This is where Odyssey Prime diverged from conventional roleplaying games. You'll create and alternate play between two characters: an Odyssey explorer and a Dam Con agent. As the latter, you're responsible for any operation necessary to maintain the Project's invisibility to the public and safeguard its security concerns—yes, the "black ops." These Mission: Impossibles may take you from censoring a news report about the Doomsday Asteroid in St. Louis one week, to hunting down a rogue agent in a desert stronghold in Australia the next, to rescuing a Project member abducted on vacation in Prague the next, to capturing a violent alien creature that managed to hitch a ride back with an Odyssey Team the week after that.

In essence, Odyssey Prime is two concurrent campaigns in one, converging a startling variety of universes in one. This lets the Game Master run adventures of significantly different themes and style all in the same game. For Odyssey characters, an unlimited number of settings, universes and campaign worlds are possible. For Dam Con characters, modern covert operations and intrigue in a slightly deranged world are the order of the day—this time you are the conspiracy!

Rules-wise, Odyssey Prime introduces several new features to complement the already-cinematic D20 Modern game system. There's a resolution table to support heroic actions. Now a dramatic deadshot right between the eyes is possible even for a character with little or no combat skills. The storytelling is emphasized by feats enabling players to control the minor plot elements of an adventure, an expanded experience points system that encouraged teamwork and characterization, and more. This is, of course, in addition to new Advanced Classes, skills, and other goodies for D20 Modern players.

What else do you get? How about a flexible setting for the Game Master to devise practically any sort of encounters? No longer are you bound to a single specific milieu with a predefined set of laws in Odyssey Prime. You are free to sample virtually any source as a trial run without committing to a long-term campaign. Want to try out that world from a favorite fiction, game supplement, or movie that you've always wanted to run? Here's your chance. Just pop it in as the next stop for your Odyssey Team.

Lastly, Odyssey Prime is an ambitious project. Time matters—for the world as we know it ends in the year 2012. Meanwhile, NOTHING we introduce between now (the core book) and then (a special adventure pack) is canonical. Future sourcebooks will present new worlds and possibilities, but Game Masters can create as they wish without worrying about us throwing monkey wrenches into their campaign timeline. (We won't say much about the conclusion, except that your characters WILL have a chance to stop the Doomsday Asteroid!)
