Black Industries to Publish DC Comics RPG?

Was this ever reported? If so, I missed it completely. I just found it while looking at some articles on Publisher's Weekly Comic Weekly newsletter online:

Get Your Game On: DC, Black Industries Ink Deal

by Calvin Reid, PW Daily -- 8/26/2005
Article

Black Industries, the role-playing game division of U.K-based game and comics publisher Black Library, has entered into a licensing deal with DC Comics to develop a role playing game and book series based on DC Comics super heroes.

Vincent Rospond, global sales and marketing manager for Black Library, says the agreement gives BI "free range" to create a game based on any of the characters from the DC Comics universe. BI will publish at least 6 books, launching the series with a game rule book that will be released at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2006. After the initial six books, says Rospond, BI will follow with a new book each month beginning in late 2006.

Rospond says the rule-book will be followed by supplementary books based on characters like Superman and Batman, as well as books to provide more background on the DC Universe and the adventures in the game. BI’s books are distributed in the U.S. by Simon & Schuster.

This article originally appeared in the August 26, 2005 issue of PW Daily.

Then I look on the BI site, and find this:

How did I miss this?

You don't visit RPG.net enough!

AFAIK, no game system has been announced yet, but many are hoping that it goes with M&M 2nd ed as opposed to some unique system.

Ahhh...
Now it's starting to ring some bells. I know I've been seeing some references to a possible DC Comics/M&M game, and never put things together in my head. I guess I did read something about this, filed it away for later access, then promptly forgot about it. :o

You're right - this was a really hot topic on RPGnet back in August/September. ;)

I was kind of hoping it would use MEGS, as I feel that was always the real draw to DC Heroes in the past (note that it is easy to create the DC characters in any supers game system, thus trumping the argument that the characters themselves were the draw).

It's still a hot subject over at the M&M boards. Speculation is rife, but there has still been no announcement as to what system will be used. I can only hope since Green RoNin is the design house that whatever system they come up with will be cool and useful. So far, both systems for DC RPG's have been so bad I could cry.

I'm hoping that perhaps a licensed comics RPG will finally do well; the hope is that the comics people will buy RPG's but I just don't see that happening very often at all.

In your opinion, of course - MEGS DC Heroes is widely hailed as being the best super hero RPG ever published outside of Champions. It also did quite well commercially (better than any other licensed super hero RPG has done, to the best of my knowledge).

Well, unless you have some actual numbers to back that up, I'd have to say BS on that as the old FASERIP Marvel Super Heroes game had dozens and dozens and dozens of books produced for it just like the old Mayfair produced DC Heroes did. The MEGS system has been beaten about quite badly by that third party who produced that aweful setting and attrocial layout... Blood of Heroes I think?

Commercial considerations aside, for high powered supers gaming, it's STILL my supers system of choice. HERO and M&M notwithstanding.

Which version? The Blood of Heroes? The original DC or it's heir?
